Field information options (PDF)
About this task
- Identifier
- The name of the field parameter. When adding a field, the Identifier shows the next available field parameter name, beginning with Field1.
- Mask
- The pattern of symbols that the indexing program matches to data located in the field. The symbols represent various characters. For example, the mask @@@ causes the indexing program to match a three-character alphabetic field. Valid mask symbols can include: @ # ¬ ^ % = See Mask for more information.
- Default Value
- The default index value when there are no words within the coordinates provided for the field string box. (If there are no words and you do not specify a default value, the indexing program fails.) The default value must be specified as character (ASCII) data. The default value can be from 1 to 250 bytes in length. Note: Neither the administrative client nor the indexing program validates the content of the data that you specify.
- Constant Value
- Specify to define a constant field. A constant field allows you to add data to an index value or to create a specific index value. Specify the literal (constant) string value of the field as character (ASCII) data. The constant value can be from 1 to 250 bytes in length. Note: Neither the administrative client nor the indexing program validates the content of the data that you specify.
- Trigger
- The trigger parameter on which the field is based.
- Base
- Determines whether the indexing program uses the upper left coordinates of the trigger string value to locate the field. Choose from 0 (zero) and Trigger. If you specify Base=0, then the indexing program adds zero to the field string box coordinates. If you specify Base=Trigger, then the indexing program adds the upper left coordinates of the location of the trigger string box to the coordinates provided for the field string box. You should use Base=0 if the field data always starts in a specific area on the page. You should use Base=Trigger if the field data is not always located in the same area on every page, but is always located a specific distance from the trigger. This capability is useful when the number of lines on a page varies, causing the location of the field values to change.
- Reference String
- An example of the field value. The graphical indexer displays the value that you selected in the report. Use the arrow keys to move to the right-most and left-most characters of the sample value.
- Upper Left Coordinates
- Determines the area on the page that the indexing program searches to find the field. The location of the text string is described as x and y pairs in a coordinate system that is imposed on the page.
- Lower Right Coordinates
- Determines the area on the page that the indexing program searches to find the field. The location of the text string is described as x and y pairs in a coordinate system that is imposed on the page.
- Location from Trigger
- The sheet number where the indexing program begins searching for the field. The value is relative to the Trigger. If you specify Base=0, then the value can be On a Page Before the Trigger and the Page Offset can be -1 to -16 or the value can be On a Page After the Trigger and the Page Offset can be 1 to 16. If you specify Base=Trigger, then the value must be On the Same Page as the Trigger and the Page Offset is zero.
- Add an Index on Exit
- When this checkbox is selected and you click OK, the Add an Index
window is displayed so that indexing parameters can be defined for
the new field.
The checkbox is only applicable when adding a field.
