Data distribution groups (defined)

A data distribution group identifies one or more data distribution files and can be used to build a data distribution image.

You can create data distribution files and build and use data distribution groups so that you do not have to duplicate information in data distribution files. For example, the following data distribution files could be created and then added to data distribution groups to build different versions of a data distribution image:

DistFile1
Identifies users and groups included in all data distribution images.
DistFile2
Identifies folder1 and named query.
DistFile3
Identifies folder2 and named query.
DistFile4
Identifies folder3 and named query.
DistFile5
Identifies label file 1 used to print a label on the data distribution media.
DistFile6
Identifies label file 2 used to print a label on the data distribution media.
DistFile7
Identifies client programs included in all data distribution images.
DistFile8
Identifies user-defined files included in all data distribution images.

By creating the example data distribution files, you can build and use data distribution groups so that the same information does not have to be duplicated in data distribution files. For example, you could build one data distribution group that includes data distribution files 1, 2, 5, 7, and 8 and another data distribution group that includes data distribution files 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8.

Content Manager OnDemand processes data distribution files in the order in which they are listed in the data distribution group. For example, assume that the folder identified in DistFile2 includes user and group permissions. To process the permissions correctly, the users and groups must be added to the data distribution image before the folder. Therefore, DistFile1 must be listed before DistFile2 in the data distribution group.
