Adding, updating, or viewing a label

About this task

Use to specify the label template file and merge file Content Manager OnDemand uses to generate labels for the data distribution media. You can also specify merge fields to merge data into the label template file records that contain merge field variables. Merge fields are used with label template files generated by the Rimage label authoring software. If the label template file does not contain merge field variables, Content Manager OnDemand ignores the merge fields when generating the label. If no merge fields are specified, Content Manager OnDemand ignores the merge field variables when generating the label. See the Label Editor User Guide for details about creating label template files, including how to import text into a label.

To add or update a label, you must have permission to access the System Data Distribution (L) application group and permission to add, delete, and view documents.

Here are some options and commands that you can use:

ID
An identifier for the label template file. IBM recommends that you use the default ID provided by Content Manager OnDemand. To use your own identifier, type an ID in the space provided. The ID must be unique to the data distribution file. After you add a label to the data distribution file, you cannot change the ID.
Label File
The name of the file that contains the label template used by Content Manager OnDemand to print a label on the data distribution media. You can create a label template file using the Rimage label authoring software. You can specify the name of one label template file per data distribution file. Type the full path or file name of the file or click Browse to select a file. The name must be a valid Windows file name.
Browse
Opens the Open window to select a label file.
Automatic volume numbering
Creates two merge fields: one for the current volume number and one for the total number of volumes. If you choose Automatic volume numbering, you can specify up to eight additional merge fields, in the Merge Field Contents and in a merge file.
Merge Field Contents
Use to specify merge fields. The text strings that you specify replace merge field variables in the label template file when Content Manager OnDemand prints labels for the data distribution media. Type merge fields in order, from 1 to 8. Use the numbers to identify the merge field variables. For example, if you type OF in field 1, the merge field variable &1 must exist in the label template file.
Merge File
The name of the file that contains text strings to be imported into the label template file. You can create a merge file with a standard text editor. You can specify the name of one merge file per data distribution file. Type the full path name of the file on the server. The name cannot exceed 128 bytes.
OK
Adds or updates the label and closes the Label window.
Cancel
Closes the Label window without adding or updating the label.
Help
Opens the online help for the Label window.
