Data types

You can store the following types of data in the system:

Data Type

Description

AFP

Advanced Function Presentation. The source data can be AFP or line data or Metacode that you plan to convert to AFP and store the AFP data in Content Manager OnDemand.

BMP

Bitmap. An input file that contains a bit-mapped graphic. Also known as a raster image.

GIF

Graphics Interchange Format. A bit-mapped color graphics file format. GIF uses an efficient compression technique for high resolution graphics.

JFIF (JPEG)

JPEG File Image Format. An input file that contains image data compressed using the JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) standard. Offers significant file size savings over GIF.

Line

EBCDIC files that might contain ANSI or machine carriage control characters or ASCII files that might contain carriage returns and line feeds.

Metacode

A print file designed to print on a Xerox printer. The input can be DJDE-Conditioned Line Data, mixed mode, and fully composed Xerox metacode files, including FRMs, IMGs and LGOs.

PCX

Picture Exchange Format. A file that contains a graphic in the PCX graphics file format. Originally developed for the PC Paintbrush program, but is now widely used by other applications.

PDF

Portable Data Format. A distilled version of PostScript.

PNG

Portable Network Graphics. Offers enhanced compression of images and can handle multiple colors and large pictures, without using a lossy compression scheme. Offers significant file size savings over GIF, but not as much over JPEG.

SCS

System Network Architecture (SNA) Character Stream. Input data that is generated from an IBM® i printer file with a device type of *SCS.
Note: SCS should not be selected on a Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms or z/OS server unless the data is being indexed and loaded from an IBM i server to a Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms or z/OS server.

SCS-Extended

The same as SCS, except that the data includes extended print attributes that might have been ignored in an SCS data stream. The extended print attributes include variable lines per inch and variable characters per inch.
Note: SCS-Extended should not be selected on a Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms or z/OS server unless the data is being indexed and loaded from an IBM i server to a Content Manager OnDemand for Multiplatforms or z/OS server.

TIFF

Tagged Image File Format. A bit-mapped graphics format for scanned images with resolutions of up to 300 dpi. TIFF simulates gray-scale shading. Content Manager OnDemand supports single- and multi-page TIFF, compressed and uncompressed.

XML

Extensible Markup Language.

User Defined

Content Manager OnDemand provides the user defined data type so that you can maintain other types of data in the system. For example, you can define an application for HTML documents. When you select the user defined data type, you must identify the file extension. The file extension determines the program that is started when a user retrieves the file. For example, if the file extension is HTM, then a web browser could be started to view the file. The client operating system settings determine the program that is started when the user opens a file with the extension that you specify.

When you select the user defined data type, you typically set the Indexer field on the Indexer Information page to Generic. You cannot define logical view fields, logical views, or server print options for the application.

None

Reserved for Content Manager OnDemand system use.

Global DJDE

This data type is in support of line print datastreams that contain Xerox Global DJDE print records.
