Notes

The ARSDB program should be run only on the library server.

IBM® recommends that you stop the Content Manager OnDemand server programs and related processes before you run the ARSDB program with the create (-c), import (-i), reorganize (-m) or offline database backup (-y, -Y) parameters.

The Content Manager OnDemand server program (or service) can continue to run even after you stop the database manager. However, Content Manager OnDemand sends an error message to the client and the system log when a user attempts to query the database and the database manager has been stopped.

IBM recommends that you do not load data into the system at the same time that you run the ARSDB program with the -m or -s parameters.

IBM recommends that you use database-specific utilities, instead of using the ARSDB program with the -y, -Y, -z, or -Z parameters, to manage your database backup and recovery. The database utilities provided with Db2, Oracle, and SQL Server offer a more robust set of backup and recovery solutions that cannot be provided within the ARSDB program itself. If you do use the -y, -Y, -z, or -Z parameters with the ARSDB program, note the following information:

The online database backup command (-z, -Z parameters) can be run while other applications are connected to the database.

If you plan to back up the database to a tape device, then you might need to configure the Buffer Size Limit in Db2®. If you plan to backup the database to a tape device and specify a variable block size, then you must configure the Db2 buffer size to a value that is less than or equal to the maximum block size limit for the backup device. For maximum performance, you should set the buffer size to the maximum block size for the backup device. See the Db2 documentation for details. Contact the IBM support center if you have questions.
