Adding a printer

Before you begin

You must be a system administrator to add a printer.

Procedure

  1. Select and expand the library server.
  2. Right-click Printers.
  3. From the pop-up menu, select New Printer to open the Add a Printer window.
  4. On the General page:
    • Type the name that the server printer is known to users of Content Manager OnDemand in the Name field. The printer name can be from one to 60 bytes in length.
    • Type text in the Description field. You can type up to 120 bytes of descriptive information about the printer, such as the building and room number in which the printer is located and the host name and IP address of the printer.
    • Type the name of the print queue in the Server Queue Name field.
    • Choose the Printer Type. Identifies the type of print device. Choose from Printer, FAX, and Printer with Information. When a user selects a server printer associated with a FAX device, the server print manager generates a FAX cover sheet that is sent with the document to the device. A server printer type of Printer with Information lets users type information used by the server print manager to generate a cover sheet that is printed with the document.
      Remember: To use a server printer type of FAX or Printer with Information, an administrator must configure the server print manager print queue that is associated with the printer by activating the Header Page Exit and specifying the name of the Header Page Program. The header page program merges the information the user specifies with a user-defined overlay to produce the cover sheet. (IBM provides a sample header page program, source code, and overlay.)     • On the permissions page, specify the users and groups that can access the printer. To add a user or group to the printer's access list, first select the user or group name in the Users/Groups list and then click Add.
    • Click OK in the Add a Printer window to add the printer and save the information in the system log. Click Cancel, to close the Add a Printer window without adding the printer.
