About the viewers
The viewers help you display documents that are saved in a specific format or need special processing before they can be displayed on a user’s screen.
ODWEK provides the HTML Line Data Viewer, which is an HTML5-based line data viewer that displays line data documents natively in the browser window and adds a toolbar to the top of the display window. The toolbar of the Line Data Viewer provides controls that can help users work with documents. An administrator enables the use of the Line Data Viewer programmatically by writing their application to use the Line Data Viewer when retrieving line data documents. See Installing and configuring viewing and transform software for more details.
One advantage of the Line Data Viewer is that users never have to install or upgrade software on the workstation to use them. When the ODWEK Java APIs are updated on the system where the ODWEK application is running, the Line Data Viewer is also updated and changes are delivered to the browser without having to install additional software on the workstation.
When using the Line Data Viewer that is provided by IBM, the documents that are retrieved from a Content Manager OnDemand server remain compressed until reaching the viewer. The viewer uncompresses the documents and displays the pages in a web browser window. If a document was stored in Content Manager OnDemand as a large object, then the viewer retrieves and uncompresses segments of the document, as needed, when the user moves through pages of the document.
