Defining migration policies and storage sets
You must define migration policies before you can define reports to Content Manager OnDemand or load data into the system.
Creating a migration policy also creates a storage set with the same name. The OnDemand
Administrator client uses the term storage set
. However, you do not create storage sets
directly; they are created for you when you create a migration policy.
You can set up Content Manager OnDemand to copy data to cache (local disk storage) or archive storage, or both. The storage management attributes of the application groups that you add to the system will determine the types of media that you need and how you configure migration policies on the system.
A migration policy must contain at least one primary storage group. A primary storage group specifies archive storage media such as cloud storage, disk pools, optical, or tape. The OnDemand Administrator client online help provides details about defining storage characteristics. Also see the IBM® Content Manager OnDemand for i: Administration Guide for more information about migration policies.
Although not recommended, if you plan to migrate index data to archive storage, then you must assign the System Migration application group to a migration policy that specifies archive storage. Also, it is recommended that you assign the System Log application group to a migration policy that specifies archive storage so that the system can maintain a long-term copy of the data that is written to the system log.
