Adding a trigger (Line)

About this task

Follow these steps to add a trigger:

Procedure

  1. Make sure the report window is in add mode. Click the Display and Add Parameters icon on the toolbar. The mode is displayed on the status bar.
  2. Click the area in the report that you want to define as a trigger. If necessary, click and hold the left mouse button and drag to select areas that include the blank character and other special characters. To define a trigger that searches for a carriage control character, such as a Skip to Channel One, select any column in the record that contains the carriage control character. Note: If the input data contains machine carriage control characters, then the lines that contain an Action Only carriage control character (such as a hexadecimal 0B) is displayed in the report window. To define a trigger that uses an Action Only carriage control character, select column one of the line.
  3. Click the Define a Trigger icon on the toolbar to open the Add a Trigger window.
  4. Verify the trigger type.
  5. Verify the Records to Search. To search a range of records for the trigger, type the record number at which point the indexing program stops searching for the trigger in the End field.
  6. Verify the Columns to Search. To define a trigger that searches for a carriage control character, select Carriage Control.
  7. Click OK to add the trigger.
