Summaries
A summary file contains information for an object or multiple objects.
If you select one or more checkboxes under Summary Information in the Create Objects Summary window (for example, Create Reports Summary window), the information that is contained on the page associated with the checkbox is included in the summary file. If you do not select any check box, only the name of the object is included in the summary file.
To include information for multiple objects in a summary file, select multiple objects at one time and create a summary file for the same objects, or, you can create a summary file for different objects. For example, you can select one banner and create a summary file for it. Then, you can select a report and append a summary of that report to the end of the summary file for the banner that you just created.
The information that a summary file contains varies depending on the object that you choose to summarize. If an object references other objects, its summary contains the names of the referenced objects, but not detailed information about the referenced objects. For example, a bundle might reference multiple reports and banners, and all report and banner names are displayed in the bundle summary under BUNDLE CONTENTS, however, properties of each report or banner are not included in the summary.
You can view the summary file after you create it. One benefit of the summary file is that it allows you to recreate any object that could have been lost, or, you can keep a record of the objects that are on the server. Another benefit is that technical support can use it to assist in determining problems.
