Project is the basic organizational unit for running the IBM Live Migration Service solution. Each project has a specific target infrastructure and set of licenses assigned to it.

A project is a part of an account and is associated with one of the license packages of that account. Each project has its own installation token. This installation token is used to install agents on the source machines of the project. Thus, the monitoring and managing of the source machines is done at the project level. This also includes mail notifications about the status of the source machines. These notifications are gathered and sent according to events that occur in the machines within the project. By default, when opening the IBM Live Migration Service user console, the last displayed project appears.

Creating a New Project

The first step in setting up the IBM Live Migration Service is to create a project.

NoteOnly the Account owner and Account Admin can create a project.

A project is created as part of your account. Upto 100 projects can be included in each account. The project type can be created depending upon the account's license package.

Before you install the agents on a source machine that are part of the project, this project must be linked to a license package that provides the appropriate licenses.

The following process allows to create a new project:

  1. Click + on the upper left corner of the user console.

  2. On the Create New Project dialog box, enter the following, then click CREATE PROJECT.

    • Project Name: Enter a unique name for the project. The name can contain up to 255 characters
    • Target Cloud: Select from the list of target infrastructure platform

    • License: Select a license package to associate with your project

      Your new project will be created and will now be listed in the project list located at the top left corner.

  3. A message will appear stating that your project is not set up until you provide credentials and the replication settings is configured. Click Continue to reject the message.

The next step in setting up the IBM Live Migration service after creating a project is based on your selected target infrastructure.
