This release adds a modal to the vendor credentials page if the user clicks outside the side pane while filling in the credentials information.

Before this release, if the user clicks outside the side panel of Vendor credentials screen, then the screen used to go away and the data filled in the form was lost requiring the user to refill the information again.

Account Assignment Without Provisioning Dependency – November 4, 2025

Today, we launched IBM Cloudability MSP/Commercial Billing Account assignment without provisioning dependency. This enhancement allows MSP Admins to assign accounts to end consumers without needing to confirm whether the end consumer environment has already been provisioned. The setup process is now more flexible and efficient.

Before this release, partners had to follow a strict order of operations — provisioning end consumers before assigning accounts — which often led to delays and errors when the steps were not followed precisely.

Export reports in user-defined locale format – October 16, 2025

Today, Cloudability Reports introduced an enhancement allowing users to export the Report data in a CSV format that is consistent with their environment's selected locale format, using either a dot "." or a comma "," as a decimal separator.Locale settings can be modified on the “Currency” tab under the "Manage Profile” settings by the account administrator.

FOCUS 1.1 Support in Cloudability – October 13, 2025

Starting today, customers can easily ingest any dataset in Cloudability that complies with the FOCUS v1.1 specification, in addition to FOCUS v1.0, and gain cost visibility into the ingested spend.

There is no change to the credentialing process for the FOCUS 1.1 format and it follows the same process as FOCUS 1.0.

Azure Cost Management Exports: Gzip Compression support – October 9, 2025

This release introduces support for Gzip compression for Azure Cost management exports. Cloudability customers would now be able to use:
  • Export format : CSV
  • Compression : None or Gzip

This would help reduce the file size of Azure exports.

Azure Credentialing for MSP/Commercial Billing: Account Alias Support and Tenant ID Visibility – September 30, 2025

This release introduces two enhancements under Azure Credentialing for Cloudability MSP/ Commercial Billing:

  • Human-Readable Display Names for Azure Accounts: Management orgs need to manage hundreds of Azure accounts across multiple end consumers, which can be overwhelming. To simplify this, management org admins can now provide custom, human-readable display names to Azure accounts using the editable ‘Account Alias’ field directly within the Azure Credentialing UI. Using Account Alias, admins can easily identify accounts during setup, configuration, troubleshooting and day-to-day operations.
  • Tenant ID Visibility in Azure Credentialing UI: Management org admins can now view the Azure Tenant ID alongside Subscription Name and Subscription ID in the Azure Credentialing UI. This makes it easier to identify which subscriptions belong to which end consumers’ tenant. This enhancement will provide transparency and help management orgs better manage Azure credentials across multiple tenants.

In addition to the Azure Credentialing UI, the Account Alias and Tenant ID fields will also be available via the Credentials API for automation or integrations.

Note: Both fields are available only for Azure MPA in Cloudability MSP/Commercial Billing.

Pivot Tables in Dashboards – September 24, 2025

Cloudability Dashboards introduces pivot table functionality. This improvement allows users to use Dimension values as columns, making it easier to analyze the metric breakdown by any dimension.

Pivot tables provide a powerful way to summarize, analyze and explore your data by using any dimension’s values as the table column. Users can easily aggregate data by category, date or any other dimension.

These tables are enabled by default for all existing Cloudability Dashboard tables. Additional control functionality, such as enabling/disabling pivots and configuring a default pivot value, will be added soon.

Cloudability MSP Annual and Total Commit – September 16, 2025

Today, we launched IBM Cloudability Managed Service Provider (MSP) Annual Commit and IBM Cloudability Managed Service Provider (MSP) Total Commit parts. These will allow partners to purchase Cloudability MSP with annual commitments and overages as opposed to monthly commitments. The underlying product will be the same Cloudability MSP, the only changes will be in packaging and pricing.

Before this release, partners who were interested in Cloudability MSP only had the option to purchase it with the monthly commit/monthly overages model which does not universally align with their business needs.

Deselect all dimensions in Dashboard – September 4, 2025

Cloudability Dashboards introduces an improvement that allows users to select a single Dimension from the Chart’s legend. They can focus on a single Dimensions easily, without having to discard other Dimensions from the legend individually.

Adjust Negative Values in Dashboards Charts – August 27, 2025

This release introduces an improvement that allows users to automatically scale their charts Y-axis to adjust for negative values. Previously, all charts' axes started at 0 and viewing negative values required manually configuring the static 'start scale' option. This option is enabled by default for new charts and users can still opt-out of the functionality by deselecting the 'Start scale from lowest value' checkbox. Both existing and previously configured charts will not change their behavior.

Copy and Paste Comma-Separated List of Filters in Dashboards and Reports – August 27, 2025

This release introduces an improvement allowing users to copy and paste a comma-separated list of filters in Cloudability Dashboards and Reports.

Users can:
  • Copy the list of filters' values by using Ctrl+C in the values field.
  • Paste a comma-separated list into the value field, using Ctrl+V, that will be automatically separated into individual values.
  • Values containing the comma "," as part of the value are escaped as follows: "single\,value".

Cloud Spend Summary Email Enhancements – July 30, 2025

The following enhancements have been made to spend summary email content:

  • Added the Cloudability environment name in the email

  • Reduced the delivery time window for emails from 10 to 3 hours

Removing Label Filter Dropdown from Container Dashboard – June 25, 2025

The Label dropdown filter has been removed from the Container Cost Allocation page. The existing Label filters are automatically saved under Add Filter. Navigate to Add Filter > Dimension > Label to add same filters by Label Key and Value.

Cloudability MSP/CCB Allow multiple "." in end consumer's name – May 30, 2025

We have introduced a change allowing management organization users to flexibly create end consumer names aligned with their internal standards. Starting today, MSP Admin can create end consumer domains with multiple periods (“.”), or second level domains via the Org Structure Service.

Earlier, users who wanted to create an end consumer name with more than one period received an error message.

Cloudability MSP/CCB - Add option to expose blanked columns for rerated End Consumers – April 21, 2025

Today, we launched the ability for management organization (such as MSP) users to conditionally expose item description in their rerated end consumers’ Cloudability reporting. Starting today, they can decide to expose/hide these values on a per vendor basis such that item descriptions pass through to rerated end consumers for some vendors and are hidden from others.

Earlier, we had hidden Item description from all rerated end consumer reporting. For some vendors, this hidden information (which affected out of the box Apptio BI reporting) diminished the value of rerated end consumers’ features. limiting their ability to perform effective Cloud Cost Management and Optimization. Cloud vendors like Azure puts critical information about certain services like Blob Storage, Standard HDD Managed Disk in item description.

More Information about this Release

  1. Navigate to Cloudability Billing and select Settings in the left navigation pane.
  2. For each vendor you would like to expose item description for, toggle the corresponding switch to On (or the blue) state .
  3. This will change how all data loads in your rerated end consumer environments moving forward. To apply these changes to historic data, you must perform a reprocess.
Note: Please keep reprocesses to a minimum. If you must do so, please be mindful that all your other settings (pricing, discounts, org structure service assignments, etc.) are also correct.

Cloudability MSP/CCB management org can change an end consumer pricing type – April 3, 2025

Today, we launched an improvement for management organization (such as MSP) admins to be able to change the pricing type of an end consumer in the Org Structure Service. Starting today, management org admins can change the Pricing Type property of a deprovisioned end consumer in a self-service manner.

Earlier, management org admins needed to submit a service ticket to change the Pricing Type of provisioned end consumers.

More Information about this Release

Management org users can modify end consumer environment properties, including pricing type, in the Org Structure Service.

Follow the steps:
  1. Navigate to Org Structure Service and Select Configuration > Dashboard in left navigation.
  2. Choose unit (entity) whose Pricing Type you would like to change.
  3. If the unit is already provisioned, deprovision the environment.
  4. Choose proper Pricing Type.
  5. Provision the environment.

Cloudability MSP/CCB Containers for Rerated End Consumers – April 2, 2025

Today, we launched containers for rerated end consumers of Managed Service Providers (MSPs) or commercial management orgs. Starting today, rerated end consumers can get visibility into their container costs and reliably charge them back to the business using the cash cost basis.

Earlier, rerated end consumer users could not perform their own container cost allocation, which greatly reduced the FinOps potential of their Cloudability applications. They had to rely entirely on their management organization to handle container cost management. Their lack of access to their own container cost reporting made it difficult for them to bring financial accountability for these costs to their own teams.

More Information about this Release

Rerated end consumers of management orgs can have the same container management needs as other organizations. Those wanting to perform hands-on Cloud Cost Management and Optimization had to rely entirely on their management organization to do so. Now, they too can allocate container costs in Cloudability.

The Containers feature allows users to get visibility across and allocate costs for their Kubernetes Clusters as well as validate that those costs are appropriately allocated. For rerated end consumers, container cost data is available with a “Cash” cost basis.

Cloudability MSP/CCB Rightsizing for Rerated End Consumers – March 31, 2025

Today, we launched rightsizing features for rerated end consumers of Managed Service Providers (MSPs) or commercial management orgs for users in the US, EU, and AU regions. Starting today, rerated end consumer users get the benefit of an intuitive interface for drilling into rightsizing recommendations (provided at a list cost basis) to implement and track the success of their Cloudability application.

Earlier, rerated end consumers had to rely entirely on their management organization for rightsizing tasks reducing the FinOps potential of their Cloudability applications. Today's release allows them to self-serve their own rightsizing requirements.

More Information about this Release

Rerated end consumers of MSPs or commercial management orgs may have the same rightsizing needs as any other organization. While some MSPs/management orgs perform all cloud cost optimization on behalf of their end consumers, some end consumers are hands-on and like to self-serve some of their own FinOps recommendations. Now, they too can implement and track the outcomes of their rightsizing recommendations.

Rightsizing along with Rightsizing ROI, Rightsizing Preferences, and Rightsizing Policies allows users to see cloud resource utilization over time and then view recommended scenarios for each resource to better inform their cloud rightsizing decisions. Rightsizing ROI allows users to view potential and realized savings for tickets synchronized with Jira. Please note that for rerated end consumer environments, Rightsizing recommendations are only available with a public list cost basis.

Cloudability MSP - Auto-Credentializing All Accounts – February 07, 2025

Today, we launched the ability for all sub-accounts to auto-credentialize in Cloudability’s Vendor Credentials when assigned to an end consumer in the Org Structure Service. Starting today, MSP admins can assign accounts (e.g., MSP Org Structure Keys) to provisioned end consumer units regardless of whether those accounts have been advanced credentialed or activated in Cloudability ’s Vendor Credentials and all necessary data for those accounts, including cost and usage data, tags, utilization, etc., will be updated accordingly.

Earlier, if a sub-account (linked account, subscription, project, tenancy) was added to a customer unit before advanced credentialing was completed, it would cause an error in which corresponding utilization data would not be assigned properly and raw vendor tags would not flow to that end customer’s Cloudability application. To fix this, they had to complete advanced credentialing (or activation) for the account, remove the account id from the customer unit in the org structure service, and then reassign it which was especially cumbersome if they had added many accounts at once. MSP admins would also not get alerts about this error which was frustrating. While we advised that management orgs fully complete credentialing, including advanced credentialing of subaccounts, before setting up their Org Structure Service, this was not always possible (details in Appendix 1).

Management org users can continue to follow the same process of adding accounts to end customers in the Org Structure Service, the only change is that they can now do so without completing advanced credentialing first.

More Information about this Release

Accounts added to end consumers in the Org Structure Service before advanced credentialing is completed in Cloudability will now be successfully associated with that end consumer.

IBM Cloudability Commercial Billing - February 04, 2025

Today, we launched IBM Cloudability Commercial Billing. Commercial Cloudability customers can benefit from the Managed Service Provider (MSP) grade rerating and environment federation capabilities of Cloudability MSP.

Customers of IBM Cloudability Commercial Billing get single-pane-of-glass visibility across their organization when leveraging Cloudability MSP’s detailed insights to increase discount coverage and improve cost savings. They can uplift or discount their business units’ or subsidiaries’ (which will both be referred to as BUs) cloud costs to easily and flexibly streamline their chargeback processes. It is also straightforward for organizations to provision individual Cloudability MSP environments for each BU, providing business units direct access to the leading FinOps tool and scaling FinOps services.

Earlier, commercial Cloudability customers could use business metrics to reflect chargeback rules to BUs but this process can be manual and difficult to maintain for accurate, monthly chargeback. Additionally, doing so does not hide raw cost metrics from BU users which can result in confusion and frustration during the invoice reconciliation process. If BU data requires secure segmentation (such that different BUs should not be able to see/access each others’ data), managing this federation with only views can be time consuming and manual. Now, commercial Cloudability customers can apply price books to BU spend and hide other raw cost metrics from BU reporting. They can also automatically, without IBM assistance, provision environments for their BUs so that data is securely federated and each BU gets a fresh set of Cloudability and Apptio BI features to configure according to their unique needs.

IBM Cloudability Commercial Billing uses the same underlying functionality as IBM Cloudability MSP . The product user interface, education, and Help Center material will reflect that at this time.

IBM Cloudability Essentials or IBM Cloudability Standard is a prerequisite for this optional Cloud Service unless otherwise agreed to by IBM

Applications for High Level Organization

Cloudability

High level organization users can still perform CCMO across all BU spend in their Cloudability Application.

  1. Set up Cloudability normally to perform CCMO across organization (please note that at least one account must be credentialed in Cloudability before new Commercial Billing applications can be set up)

  2. Flexibly remove any line-item discounts from BU reporting.

Org Structure Service

Here, high level organization users can set up their org structure, inclusive of intermediate units and BUs that will ultimately be provisioned.

  1. Add intermediate units and BUs which should have their own environments provisioned. Provisioned BUs can be of pricing type “raw” (meaning they will see vendor data with all cost metrics) or “MSP-set” type (meaning that they will see only the uplifted/discounted charge based on organizational chargeback rules alongside list cost)

  2. Provision BU environments

  3. Flexibly assign accounts to BUs

  4. (Optional: If a unit is of MSP-set pricing type, you should configure and assign a price book to them in the Billing application)

  5. Enable data flow to customer environments and add users.

ibm cloudability process flow

Apptio BI

High level organization users can report across preexisting Cloudability data sources as well as see customer and charge data with the new “Cloudability MSP” (Cloudability Commercial Billing) data source. They can specifically use this data source to create cost recovery reports to easily track the health of their business.

  1. In Apptio BI, create a new report.

  2. Add a visualization and select the "Cloudability MSP” data source.

  3. Under metrics, select your true cost of choice (e.g., cost total, cost amortized, etc. under Vendor menu) and MSP > Charge.

  4. Under metrics, select “+ Calculated Metric” and select Compare two metrics.

  5. In the Target Metric field, select MSP > Charge and in the Metric field, select the cost metric that represents your true cost. Also input a name (like Margin or Recovery) and display format.

  6. Add all other desired Apptio BI inputs (like view, dimensions, other metrics and filters) and save your visualization.

Billing

Here, high level organization users can set up their pricing rules based on BU, date, and dimensions that comes from Cloud billing files (among others). This will impact what rerated BUs see in their own environments.

  1. Create new price books and set up detailed, stackable rules

  2. Rules can be based on vendor billing file dimensions, a comprehensive set of operators as well as unique Cloudability Commercial Billing dimensions and operators.

  3. Assign BUs to price books based on dates so that new chargeback rates can be queued up well ahead of when they are intended to kick in

  4. For non-rerated BUs, you can navigate to Settings in left navigation and select what you would consider “charge” to be for them. This will impact what you see in Apptio BI reporting

  5. Billing data details, including charge, can be fetched from the “MSP Billing API” by third party systems preventing manual, error-prone recalculation of costs for invoicing.

Applications for BUs

Cloudability and Apptio BI

BUs can use these applications and self-administer their own environments just like any other commercial customer would. They will only see data from the accounts assigned to them by their organization and if they are rerated, only price book-set costs and list cost. Cloudability vendor credentials is read only for BUs and based on the pricing type (rerated, raw cost, etc.) they will have different levels of feature availability in Cloudability.

These instructions are abstracted for brevity and product launch format adherence. For full details, please see the new Cloudability MSP section of Help Center.

Cloudability MSP - Show Account Names for Assigned Org Structure Keys - January 23, 2025

Today, we launched the ability for Cloudability MSP users to see as well as search a customer’s assigned accounts by account name in addition to MSP Org Structure Key (msp_org_structure_key, or the combination of vendor and account id) in the Org Structure Service. This includes both billing account and sub-account names.

Starting today, users can quickly and easily search for accounts by their more intuitive names when validating or updating the accounts they have already assigned to customers. They will also see these names alongside org structure keys when they look at their list of assigned accounts.

Earlier, users who wanted to search for accounts under end customer units in the Org Structure Service had to enter the msp_org_structure_key to do so. When they needed to validate that accounts had been correctly assigned, they had to cross reference account ids which can be a more difficult and error prone process than using (generally) more human readable account names.

Note:

Accounts that are not credentialed will populate with a synthetic “Not Credentialed” account name. Accounts removed from vendor credentials or that do not match the granularity defined by msp_org_structure_key will not match search results.
