Required information about your VMware instance
While you prepare to install IBM® Cloud Private Cloud Foundry on VMware, you need to understand the following configuration information about your VMware instances.
Required VMware vSphere information
- vSphere versions 5.5, 6.0 and 6.5 are supported.
- vCenter IP address.
- vCenter user name.
- vCenter password.
- The data center name that is displayed in the vSphere Client that is the parent for the deployment.
- The cluster name that is displayed in the vSphere Client that is the child of the data center.
- (Optional) The resource pool name that is displayed in the vSphere Client that is the child of the cluster.
- The datastores that host stemcells and all virtual machines.
- The folder name for persistent disks.
- The port group name where the BOSH Director and Cloud Foundry virtual machines are connected.
- The virtual machine folder name that is the parent for the BOSH Director and Cloud Foundry virtual machines (Virtual Machines and Templates vSphere Client view).
Required network information
- Subnet to be used, for example
172.12.34.0/24. - Gateway from the specified subnet.
- DNS servers.
- NTP servers.
- IP addresses from the chosen subnet. For installations that use Developer mode, you need 25 IP addresses. For installations that use Enterprise mode, you need 40 IP addresses.
Required network routes
- The installer must be able to reach both the vCenter instance, and all ESXi hosts in the chosen cluster, by using an IP address or fully qualified domain name (FQDN) that is shown in vCenter. If the ESXi hosts are not reachable, the deployment fails.
- The installer deploys a BOSH director. The director uses the same vCenter and ESXi routes as the installer.
- Your deployments require extra routes for LDAP, proxies, and services.
Required certificates
Self-signed wildcard certificates are generated during installation. You can also provide your own certificates.
