IMS Operator Collection Overview

The IBM® IMS Operator Collection is part of the broader offering IBM Z® and Cloud Modernization Stack. It automates the management of your IMS systems.

What is IMS Operator Collection?

IBM Information Management System Operator Collection (IMS Operator Collection) is an Ansible® Operator collection that provides automation for provisioning and de-provisioning an IMS instance on one or more IBM Wazi Sandbox or IBM Extended z/OS® ADCD for Z Development and Test Environment endpoints.

What is IMS Operator?

IMS Operator Collection abstracts the complexity of certain IMS tasks and provides access to them on Red Hat® OpenShift® Platform. IMS Operator Collection can be imported into an instance for z/OS Cloud Broker running on Red Hat OpenShift Platform. After you import IMS Operator Collection into z/OS Cloud Broker, it creates an IMS Operator from the IMS Operator Collection.

How IMS Operator works?

IMS Operator allows system administrators and application developers to self-provision and statefully manage IMS resources that are defined in the operator collection. IMS users can use IMS Operator to provision an IMS system with a one-click, repeatable self-service automation.

This empowers developers to interact directly with z/OS resources without the need for any deep mainframe skills. It can create a more consistent systems management experience in development and test environments, accelerating time to market and delivery of new development features.

The following diagram explains how IMS Operator is used as a suboperator of z/OS Cloud Broker to enable the access to an IMS system: A collection of boxes, showing z/OS Cloud Broker enables the access to IMS systems through suboperators.
