Event Streams deployment

Build responsive event-driven applications by streaming your Kafka events with the Event Streams instance type integrated into Cloud Pak for Integration.

You can deploy an instance of Event Streams as part of Cloud Pak for Integration by using the Platform UI as described later in this section.

You can also deploy an instance of Event Streams by using the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform web console or CLI, as described in the Event Streams documentation.

Before you begin

For information about the Event Streams releases included in this version of Cloud Pak for Integration, see Operator and instance versions for this release.

  • If you have not already done so, review Overview: Installation and follow the installation procedures required for your cluster.

  • Ensure you have set up your environment to meet the prerequisites for deploying an instance of Event Streams, and plan for your deployment, such as preparing for persistent storage, considering security options, and planning for resilience.

  • Event Streams uses the default restricted Security Context Constraint (SCC) that comes with the OpenShift Container Platform. If you use a custom SCC, you might need to apply the SCC provided by Event Streams.

Deployment procedure using the Platform UI

Take the following steps to deploy an instance of Event Streams.

  1. Log in to the IBM Cloud Pak for Integration Platform UI as a Cluster Administrator. Use the authentication method and credentials set by your administrator.

  2. Click Create an instance.

  3. Click the Kafka cluster tile and click Next.

  4. Use one of the following deployment options:

    • To deploy by using the sample configurations, click the tile for the deployment option that you need, then click Next. You can modify the default configuration as needed.

    • To deploy by using an existing template from Automation assets, click the Select a template tile. If you do not have Automation assets installed, a panel opens. Click the link to open a guided installation for Automation assets.

      1. Select a template and preview its contents.

      2. Click Create from asset.

For more information about the samples and their resource requirements, see the Event Streams documentation.

  5. Enter a name for the instance, select a namespace to deploy into, accept the license, and set whether you intend to use this instance for testing purposes or in a production environment.

  6. You can further customize the configuration settings for components such as Kafka, ZooKeeper, and Schema Registry by using the Basic view. You can also click the Code tab to access the YAML file and edit any of the settings for your Event Streams instance.

  7. Click Create to install an instance of Event Streams.

  8. After the installation completes, check the status of your release and verify that your Event Streams instance deployed successfully.
