API management deployment

Deploy an instance of IBM API Connect so that you can create, manage, and share APIs.

About this task

In Cloud Pak for Integration, the API management instance is provided by the IBM API Connect operator.

An API management instance consists of four components: API Manager, API Portal, API Gateway, and API Analytics. You can deploy each subsystem individually, or you can deploy them all together as a single API Connect cluster.
Important: If you deploy by using the Platform UI, the API Connect cluster is deployed.
  • If you deploy each API Connect subsystem individually, you can install multiple API Gateway, API Portal, and API Analytics instances, and register them with the same API Manager subsystem.
  • When you deploy an API Connect cluster, you get only one instance of each subsystem. However, you enable the following:
    • Single sign-on and identity and access management that is integrated with other instances in your Cloud Pak for Integration installation.
    • A navigation experience and UI that is consistent with all other instances in your Cloud Pak for Integration installation.
    • Integration with Automation assets for asset sharing and re-use.
    • Integration with Integration design for co-authoring between App Connect flows and API Connect APIs.
    • Ability to generate an upgrade plan, which helps you manage all aspects of the Cloud Pak for Integration upgrade.
