Filters

Filters are used to screen the displayed data, and may be used for dashboards, tables, reports, and alerts.

Adding a filter

Click Add Filter. A panel is displayed for entering and applying a new filter.

Add filter panel

Use this panel as follows:

  • A filter is a combination of a field, an operator and a value. The section at the top allows you to move between those parts and enter values. As you enter text, the following results refresh to display results that include only the string you entered.

  • Use the integration capabilities checkboxes (API C, App C and MQ) to show or hide fields and filters that are relevant only for these capabilities.

  • Suggested fields: Suggested filter fields, based on your usage history. Once clicked, the field is applied and the panel updates so you can select the values.

  • All fields: All available fields. Once clicked, the field is applied and the panel updates so you can select the values.

  • Suggested filters: Suggested combinations of filter fields and values based on your usage history. Once clicked, the filter is applied to the page.

  • Saved filters: Saved filters for this page (see below for more information). Once clicked, the saved filters are applied to the page.

  • Operators: Operators valid for the selected filter field. Once clicked, the operator is applied and the panel updates so you can select the values.

  • Suggested values: Suggested values, based on your usage history. Once clicked, the filter is applied to the page.

  • All values: All available values that exist. Once clicked, the filter is applied to the page.

  • Multiple values: Allows you to apply multiple values for the filter, for example, Client IP=192.168.1.100,192.168.1.200.

  • Add another: Causes the panel to open again automatically after you add a filter. This is useful for quickly adding several filters, one after the other.

Note: On first use, some lists will not show, as they are based on your usage history.
Note: Filters work at the span rather than trace level. In some cases (such as in [traces](../../traces/traces.md) page), a span contained in a trace may match the filter and is included (or excluded) from the display, while other spans from the same trace may not match the filter. As long as one span matches, the entire trace will still appear in the displayed data.

Provide the following information to save the filters:

  • Name: The name that will appear in the Saved filters list.

  • Scope: If scope is set to All pages, you will be able to apply these saved filters in all pages that have filters. If scope is set to This page only, you will be able to see and apply these saved filters in the current page, only.

  • Share: If the share option is set to Only for myself, those filters are available only for you. Administrators of Operations Dashboard may set this option to Share with everyone to create saved filters that all users can see and apply.

Modifying saved filters

Saved filters can be edited or deleted. To edit, click the pencil icon next to the Saved filters title.
