Preparing the IBM Z and the Linux x86_64 clusters

When you deploy API Connect as a capability in Cloud Pak for Integration, the Management and Portal subsystems are installed on the IBM Z, while the Gateway and Analytics subsystems are installed on Linux x86_64. Prepare both clusters by installing prerequisite software.

Procedure

  1. Prepare the IBM Z cluster:
    1. Install OpenShift 4.10 or 4.12.
    2. Install a storage provider, such as OpenShift Data Foundation 4.10 or 4.12, and enable encryption.
Tip: For OpenShift Data Foundation in a production environment, the optimal minimum deployment is 4 nodes, with 3 OpenShift dedicated clusters (OSDs) for each cluster. This provides much greater data resiliency in the event of any OSD failures.

For more information, see Deploying OpenShift Data Foundation using IBM Z infrastructure.

    3. Install the following catalog sources:
      • Cloud Pak for Integration catalog source
      • API Connect catalog source

For information, see Adding catalog sources to your OpenShift cluster.

    4. Install the Cloud Pak for Integration and the API Connect operator.

For information, see Installing the operators.

    5. Create an instance of the Cloud Pak for Integration Platform UI.

For information, see Deploying the Platform UI.

  2. Prepare the Linux x86_64 cluster:
    1. Install OpenShift 4.10 or 4.12.
    2. Install a storage provider, such as OpenShift Data Foundation 4.10 or 4.12, and enable encryption.
    3. Install the following catalog sources:
      • Cloud Pak for Integration catalog source
      • DataPower Gateway catalog source
      • API Connect catalog source

For information, see Adding catalog sources to your OpenShift cluster.

    4. Install the following operators:
      • Cloud Pak for Integration operator
      • DataPower Gateway operator

Install the DataPower Gateway operator before installing the API Connect operator, to ensure that dependencies are satisfied.

      • API Connect operator

For information, see Installing the operators.

Note: You do not need to install the Cloud Pak for Integration Platform UI on the Linux x86_64 cluster.
