Installing

A IBM Cloud Pak® for Integration installation consists of a Red Hat® OpenShift® Container Platform cluster or an Azure Kubernetes Service cluster with one or more operators installed and one or more deployed instances. You can complete all the installation steps yourself or simplify the process by installing on a managed OpenShift cluster from a cloud provider.

The main installation tasks on an OpenShift cluster are as follows:

  1. Add catalog sources, to make the Cloud Pak for Integration operators available to the cluster.

  2. Install the Cloud Pak for Integration operators.

  3. Apply your entitlement key.

  4. Deploy the IBM Cloud Pak Platform UI and other instances.

Express installation

Express installation is a streamlined procedure aimed at getting you started quickly. This instructions take you through deployment of the Platform UI, at which point you can decide which other operators to install, and instances to deploy. This procedure assumes that you are installing Cloud Pak for Integration on an internet-connected cluster by using the OpenShift web console.

Manual installation

To install IBM Cloud Pak for Integration manually, first make the operators available to your Red Hat OpenShift cluster, install the operators, apply the entitlement key, then deploy instances.

Before you begin

Overview of tasks

Complete all tasks that are applicable to your environment, in the order provided.

  1. If you have a disconnected/air-gapped cluster, mirror the images.

If your OpenShift cluster does not have internet access, mirror the Cloud Pak for Integration images to a private registry within the restricted (air-gapped) network environment. Mirroring ensures they are available to the cluster. Follow the steps in Mirroring images for an air-gapped OpenShift cluster.

  2. Add the catalog sources.

The catalog sources make the operators available to the cluster. Each instance type, for example, the Platform UI or Queue manager, has an operator that you must install before you can deploy it. Make the operators available to your cluster by following the steps in Adding catalog sources to an OpenShift cluster.

  3. Install the operators.

You can use either the OpenShift web console or the Red Hat command line interface (CLI):

  4. If you have an internet-connected cluster, add the IBM entitlement key.

Add your IBM entitlement key so that the cluster can pull Cloud Pak for Integration images from the IBM Entitled Container Fulfillment Registry. You can use either the OpenShift web console or the CLI:

  5. Deploy the Platform UI

The Platform UI provides a central location from which you can deploy and manage instances. You can use either the OpenShift web console or the CLI:

  6. Deploy instances

Deploy instances and integrations that you intend to use. For more information, see Deploying instances.

Automated installation

Automated installation options complete some of the installation steps for you. You can install Cloud Pak for Integration on an OpenShift cluster from one of the following cloud providers.

IBM Cloud Catalog

Use the IBM Cloud Catalog to deploy Cloud Pak for Integration to Red Hat OpenShift on an IBM Cloud cluster. The deployment automatically adds the catalog sources to the cluster, installs the operators, deploys the IBM Cloud Pak Platform UI, and deploys Automation assets.
