What's new and changed in Common core services

Common core services updates can include new features and fixes. Releases are listed in reverse chronological order so that the latest release is at the beginning of the topic.

You can see a list of the new features for the platform and all of the services at What's new in IBM Software Hub.

IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 5.4.0

A new version of the common core services was released in June 2026.

This release includes the following changes:

New features
This release of the common core services includes the following features:
View and manage data source definitions in connection forms

You can now view and refresh Data Source Definitions (DSDs) directly within the connection form. The interface shows the status of DSD lookup and integrates with Test connection, making it easier for you to verify and manage connection details during setup.

Parametrize connection properties

You can now parametrize connection properties, including boolean values, by linking connections to parameter sets or binding individual properties. This lets you manage configuration centrally and reuse connections across environments without modifying them.

Control access to data in spaces

You can now control whether users or groups can view or preview actual data in spaces by using platform permissions. This helps you restrict access to sensitive data across assets, including previews and data‑related tools.

Run and manage jobs with the Job Operator role

You can now use the Job Operator role in Deployment Spaces to run, schedule, and monitor jobs without modifying pipelines or other assets. This allows you to perform operational tasks while restricting access to design‑time changes, improving control in production environments.

Specify model modalities for custom foundation models

You can now define model tasks (modalities) such as text, image, audio, or video when importing custom foundation models. This helps you clearly indicate supported use cases and adjust modalities at deployment time to match your requirements.

New features from 5.3.1 patches
This release of the common core services includes the following features that were introduced in IBM® Software Hub Version 5.3.1 patches:
Track CCS install and upgrade duration

You can now track CCS install and upgrade duration by viewing reconciliation start and end timestamps in the CCS resource status, helping you monitor upgrade progress more easily.

Updates
The following updates were introduced in this release:
  • You can now evaluate detached PTAs directly from the Assets tab in spaces, without creating a deployment. This simplifies the workflow and removes the need for a dummy deployment to run evaluations.
Issues fixed in this release
The following issues were fixed in this release:
CCS resources do not comply with enforced Kyverno policies
  • Issue: Users experienced deployment failures because some CCS resources did not comply with enforced Kyverno policies.
  • Resolution: Violations were reviewed and partially remediated for CPD 5.3. Temporary exceptions were applied where needed, with remaining fixes planned for later patches. A blocking readOnlyRootFilesystem issue in Connections was resolved with a hotfix.
CCS operator stuck in InProgress due to insufficient temporary storage
  • Issue: After installing or patching CCS on CPD 5.3.1, users experienced the CCS custom resource getting stuck in InProgress. Operator logs showed "No space left" errors because the operator filled the /tmp directory, blocking reconciliation.
  • Resolution: As a workaround, the operator /tmp and ephemeral storage were increased to 5Gi, and the operator was restarted if needed. A permanent fix was delivered in Patch 2, increasing temporary directory capacity for the Power operator.
