Creating a remote engine for DataStage Anywhere

You can create a remote runtime engine and use DataStage® Anywhere with any container management platform.

About this task

DataStage Anywhere can be deployed with any container management platform. Startup scripts are provided for Kubernetes and Docker. You can use multiple remote engines in a project, and multiple projects can use the same remote engine.

Once you select a remote environment as a project default environment, you can only use remote environments in that project. You cannot switch back to using IBM environments for that project's DataStage jobs.

Remote engines are also supported on s390x (IBM Z and LinuxONE) systems and can be deployed as Docker containers or in Kubernetes clusters. DataStage supports cross-platform deployment scenarios, where x86_64 Cloud Pak for Data clusters can register and use s390x remote engines. Jobs submitted from x86_64 environments can run on s390x hardware, enabling workload distribution across heterogeneous architectures and taking advantage of s390x-specific capabilities.

Procedure

To create a remote engine, choose one of the following methods:
  1. Follow the instructions in Remote Engine on Kubernetes to install with Kubernetes.
  2. Follow the instructions in Remote Engine on Docker to install with Docker.
  3. Navigate to Settings under the Manage tab of your project, select the Remote option, and click installation script.
