Creating a tuning task

You can create a tuning task for a single SQL statement or query workload.

To create a tuning task, do the following:
  1. Launch the Select tuning activities to run window.
  2. Choose EXPLAIN and tuning options.
  3. Click OK to run the tuning task.
    The Tuning results page displays. You can do the following:
    • Click the Refresh icon to check the progress of the tuning task.
    • Select the task from the grid, and then click the View result button to view the tuning task recommendations.

Launch the Select tuning activities to run window by using one of the following options:

Option 1:
  1. Access the console.
  2. In the Databases page, click on the connection that you want to work on.
  3. Click the Summary drop-down menu and select Run SQL.

    The Run SQL script editor displays.

  4. In the SQL statements text box, enter one or more SQL statements that you want to tune and then click the Tune the statements icon on the tool bar.

Option 2:
  1. Access the console.
  2. In the Databases page, click on the connection that you want to work on.
  3. Click the Summary drop-down menu and go to Monitor > Statement.
  4. Click one of the following tabs:
    • In-flight executions
    • Individual executions
    • Package cache
  5. Select a single query and then click Tune query on the tool bar or Select multiple queries and then click Tune workload on the tool bar.

Option 3:
  1. Access the console.
  2. In the Databases page, click on the connection that you want to work on.
  3. Click the Summary drop-down menu and select Monitor > Alerts.
  4. In the Notification center, select a statement performance alert and view details.
  5. In the alert detail page, click the Tune statement link in the Suggested resolution section.
