Checking and refreshing your dashboard data sources

Check the status of a data source, then refresh the data source to ensure that the data in your dashboard is up to date.

About this task

Cognos Dashboards automatically refreshes data sources. In addition, overwriting a data source also automatically refreshes it. However, manually checking and refreshing data sources ensures that you can analyze your data sources at any time.

1. Go to the Assets page by clicking the Assets tab from your project overview page.
2. Go to the dashboard that you want to check.
3. If necessary, enable edit mode by clicking the Edit icon until it is green with a checkmark .
4. From the dashboard, click the Sources icon .
5. Click the Actions icon that is next to the data source that you want to check.
6. Click Status to check the status of your data source.

   The Data preparation status dialog shows the status of your data source.

7. To refresh your data source, click Refresh source.

   The dashboard displays a dialog message that states that the refresh and data preparation is complete.

8. To display the latest data from the data source refresh, close and reopen your dashboard.
