Backing up an instance of Cloud Pak for Data with the OADP utility
You can back up an IBM Cloud Pak for Data instance with the Cloud Pak for Data OADP utility by creating snapshots or Restic backups.
- If Cloud Pak for Data is installed on Ceph® Container Storage Interface (CSI) volumes, you can create volume snapshots.
- You can create Restic backups on an S3-compatible object store.
Restic is a file system copying technique that is used by OpenShift® APIs for Data Protection (OADP), based on the Restic open source project. Under OADP, Restic backups support producing backups only to S3-compatible object stores.
CSI volume snapshots and Restic backups copy both volume data and Kubernetes metadata.
Important: For services that do not support offline backups, you must back up those
services separately by using their service-specific backup process before you back up a Cloud Pak for Data deployment. For more information about services
that do not support offline backups, see Services that support backup and restore.
Create an offline backup of a Cloud Pak for Data instance by doing the following tasks.
