Creating announcements that are displayed in the web client

An IBM Cloud Pak for Data administrator can create announcements to let users know about upcoming maintenance or planned outages. The announcements are displayed below the toolbar until they expire.

Who needs to complete this task?
To create an announcement, you must have one of the following permissions:
  • Administer platform
  • Manage configurations
When do you need to complete this task?
Complete this task any time you want to notify users about something by displaying an announcement in the web client.

About this task

An announcement is displayed as banner below the toolbar in the web client until the announcement expires. An announcement is visible to all users who log in to the web client.

Depending on how you configure the announcement, users can either dismiss the announcement temporarily or permanently.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the web client.
  2. From the navigation menu, select Administration > Configurations and settings.
  3. Click Announcements.
  4. On the Active tab, click New announcement.
  5. Specify a title for the announcement.
    Important: The title is not included in the announcement that end users see.
  6. In the Message field, specify the announcement that you want users to see.
  7. In the End date field, specify the date on which you want the announcement to stop displaying in the web client.
    The announcement expires at 11:59:59 PM on the specified date.
  8. Optional: In the Learn more link field, add the URL of a page where users can get more information about the announcement.
  9. Optional: Specify whether you want to allow users to permanently dismiss the announcement.
    If you select this option, users cannot see the announcement again.
    Tip: You might need to scroll to see this option.
  10. Click Save.

Results

When you save the announcement, it is displayed in the web client until the specified end date.

When the announcement expires, the announcement moves from the Active tab to the Expired tab.
