Managing roles in Cloud Pak for Data

Upgrade to IBM Software Hub Version 5.1 before IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.8 reaches end of support. For more information, see Upgrading from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.8 to IBM Software Hub Version 5.1.

If the default roles that are provided with Cloud Pak for Data do not meet your needs, you can create new roles or edit the permissions that are associated with the default roles.

Permissions you need for this task
To manage roles, you must have one of the following permissions:
  • Administer platform
  • Manage platform roles
When you need to complete this task
You can complete this task any time you need to create, edit, or delete a role.

About this task

You can create and edit roles from the Roles tab of the Access control page.

Procedure

To create a role:

  1. Log in to Cloud Pak for Data.
  2. From the navigation menu, select Administration > Access control.
  3. Open the Roles tab.
  4. Click New role.
  5. Enter a name and a description for the role.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Select the permissions that you want to associate with the role.

    If you don't associate any permissions with the role, the users with the role can sign in to Cloud Pak for Data and can access any services or assets that do not require explicit permissions. In addition, users who own or manage assets and services instances can give users with this role access to the assets or service instances that they own.

  8. Click Next.
  9. Review the summary and click Create.

Results

You can now assign the role to users and groups.
