Preparing to upgrade Watson Machine Learning Accelerator

Important: IBM Cloud Pak® for Data Version 4.8 will reach end of support (EOS) on 31 July, 2025. For more information, see the Discontinuance of service announcement for IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.X.

Upgrade to IBM Software Hub Version 5.1 before IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.8 reaches end of support. For more information, see Upgrading from IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.8 to IBM Software Hub Version 5.1.

Before you upgrade Watson Machine Learning Accelerator, you must complete the following tasks.

Upgrading Watson Machine Learning Accelerator on a FIPS-enabled cluster

After you upgrade to Cloud Pak for Data 4.8.4 or later on a FIPS-enabled cluster, you must also upgrade to Watson Machine Learning Accelerator 4.8.4 or later. An earlier version of Watson Machine Learning Accelerator will not work on a FIPS-enabled cluster if Cloud Pak for Data 4.8.4 or later is installed.

Migrate Watson Machine Learning Accelerator from a tethered namespace to the Cloud Pak for Data namespace

If you previously provisioned the Watson Machine Learning Accelerator service instance to a tethered namespace, you must migrate the service to a namespace (project) where the Cloud Pak for Data control plane is installed before upgrading the service. For details see, Migrating Watson Machine Learning Accelerator from a tethered namespace.

Watson Machine Learning Accelerator migration is supported for Cloud Pak for Data 4.5.2 and later. If Watson Machine Learning Accelerator is installed in a tethered namespace in Cloud Pak for Data 4.5.x, you must first upgrade to Cloud Pak for Data 4.6, then migrate from a tethered namespace to the Cloud Pak for Data namespace, before upgrading to Cloud Pak for Data 4.8.

Back up Watson Machine Learning Accelerator notebooks

If you have previously used Watson Machine Learning Accelerator notebooks, make sure to export your notebooks before upgrading the service. For details, see Working with Watson Machine Learning Accelerator notebooks.

Removal of the Watson Machine Learning Accelerator console

Starting in Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.8, the Watson Machine Learning Accelerator console is no longer available. You can manage and monitor deep learning training by using Deep Learning Experiments or the Watson Machine Learning Accelerator REST API. For more information, see:
