Before you start

Before you start creating or editing dashboards with Cognos® Dashboards, complete these tasks.

1. Check that you have the Create dashboards permission, which is required for you to create and edit dashboards.

   If you have the View dashboards permission instead of the Create dashboards permission, you cannot create or edit dashboards, but you can still view them. You do not have to complete any of the following tasks if you only intend to view dashboards.

2. Identify a project in which you can work with dashboards.
   • You can create a project yourself.

   • If you are a collaborator on a project, click All projects page from the navigation links.
3. Add assets to the project, if they are not already added.
   Important: Only supported data sources can be used in Cognos Dashboards.

   You can add local files, connected data assets, and catalog assets to the project. For more information, see the following links:
