Salesforce.com connection
To access your data in Salesforce.com, create a connection asset for it.
Salesforce.com is a cloud-based software company which provides customer relationship management (CRM). The Salesforce.com connection supports the standard SQL query language to select, insert, update, and delete data from Salesforce.com products and other supported products that use the Salesforce API.

Create a connection to Salesforce.com
To create the connection asset, you need these connection details:
- The username to access the Salesforce.com server.
- The password and security token to access the Salesforce.com server. In the Password field, append your security token to the end of your password. For example,
MypasswordMyAccessToken
. For information about access tokens, see Reset Your Security Token. - The Salesforce.com server name. The default is
login.salesforce.com
.
For Credentials, you can use secrets if a vault is configured for the platform and the service supports vaults. For information, see Using secrets from vaults in connections.
Choose the method for creating a connection based on where you are in the platform
- In a project
- Click Assets > New asset > Data access tools > Connection. See Adding a connection to a project.
- In a catalog
- Click Add to catalog > Connection. See Adding a connection asset to a catalog.
- In a deployment space
- Click Add to space > Connection. See Adding connections to a deployment space.
- In the Platform assets catalog
- Click New connection. See Adding platform connections.

Where you can use this connection
You can use Salesforce.com connections in the following workspaces and tools:
Projects
- DataStage (DataStage service). See Connecting to a data source in DataStage. The Salesforce.com (optimized) connection for DataStage gives you increased performance and more features such as before and after SQL statements and reject links. However, you cannot use the "(optimized)" connection outside of the DataStage service.
- Metadata enrichment (Watson Knowledge Catalog)
- Metadata import (Watson Knowledge Catalog)
- SPSS Modeler (SPSS Modeler service)

- You can connect to this data source from Watson Query.
Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) compliance
The Salesforce.com connection is compliant with FIPS except for a connection that requires SSL.
Restriction
You can only use this connection for source data. You cannot write to data or export data with this connection.
