Setting the query mode in Watson Query

Important: IBM Cloud Pak® for Data Version 4.7 will reach end of support (EOS) on 31 July, 2025. For more information, see the Discontinuance of service announcement for IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.X.

Upgrade to IBM Software Hub Version 5.1 before IBM Cloud Pak for Data Version 4.7 reaches end of support. For more information, see Upgrading IBM Software Hub in the IBM Software Hub Version 5.1 documentation.

You can select the query mode is used Watson Query. Choose between running queries in Max Consistency mode or in Max Pushdown mode to maximize performance.

Before you begin

To complete this task, you must be the user that provisioned this service instance or have the Watson Query Admin role. For more information, see Watson Query roles.

Procedure

  1. On the navigation menu, click Data > Data virtualization.
The service menu opens to the Data sources page by default.
  2. On the service menu, click Settings > Service settings.
  3. In the Advanced settings section, select one of the following query modes:
    • Max Pushdown mode: Ignores semantic difference between Watson Query and data source for single-source queries. Therefore, more single source queries might be fully pushed down to data source, improving query performance. Query results are consistent with data source semantics for fully pushed down queries in this mode. Max Pushdown only impacts single-source queries.
    • Max Consistency mode: Follows Watson Query semantics to evaluate whether operations can be pushed down to the data source. If the operation that is executed on the data source generates the same result as Watson Query, the operation can be pushed down. Queries in this mode might be fully pushed down if the remote data source has the same semantics as Watson Query.
