Provisioning the Planning Analytics service in the technical preview (optional)

If you enabled the Planning Analytics technical preview, you can also deploy the Planning Analytics Engine while provisioning an instance of Planning Analytics.

Before you begin

Ensure that Planning Analytics add-on is installed and that you enabled the technical preview. For more information on installing the add-on, see Installing Planning Analytics.

You must have sufficient resources to provision and run the Planning Analytics service, as described by the following table.

Plan size Minimum required resources Maximum required resources Largest pod
Small Across the cluster, you must have at least:
  • Cores: 18
  • Memory: 27 Gi (Approximately 29 GB)
  • Storage: 20 Gi (Approximately 22 GB)
At most, the instance will use:
  • Cores: 79
  • Memory: 139.2 Gi (Approximately 150 GB)
  • Storage: Storage: 20 Gi (Approximately 22 GB)
The largest pod requires up to:
  • Cores: 4
  • Memory: 8 Gi (Approximately 8.5 GB)
Medium Across the cluster, you must have at least:
  • Cores: 22
  • Memory: 37.8 Gi (Approximately 41 GB)
  • Storage: 20 Gi (Approximately 22 GB)
At most, the instance will use:
  • Cores: 90
  • Memory: 165.4 Gi (Approximately 178 GB)
  • Storage: 20 Gi (Approximately 22 GB)
The largest pod requires up to:
  • Cores: 4
  • Memory: 8 Gi (Approximately 8.5 GB)
Large Across the cluster, you must have at least:
  • Cores: 27
  • Memory: 70.1 Gi (Approximately 75 GB)
  • Storage: 20 Gi (Approximately 22 GB)
At most, the instance will use:
  • Cores: 97
  • Memory: 201.5 Gi (Approximately 216 GB)
  • Storage: 20 Gi (Approximately 22 GB)
The largest pod requires up to:
  • Cores: 4
  • Memory: 8 Gi (Approximately 8.5 GB)

About this task

Create an instance of the Planning Analytics service so that users can interact with the Planning Analytics interface.

Procedure

To create a service instance:

  1. Log in to Cloud Pak for Data as an administrator.
  2. From the toolbar, click the Services icon.
  3. Click the Planning Analytics tile on the Cloud Pak for Data services catalog.
  4. On the Planning Analytics page, click Provision instance.
  5. On the Instance details page, enter an Instance name for this instance of Planning Analytics.
Optionally, enter a description for the instance.
  6. Click Next.
  7. On the Deployment page, specify whether to connect to TM1 databases that are external to Cloud Pak for Data, or to deploy the Planning Analytics Engine and Planning Analytics Spreadsheet Service on Cloud Pak for Data.
    • To connect to a TM1 database external to IBM Cloud Pak for Data, complete these configuration items:
      1. Select a namespace for the instance. For more information, see Setting up projects (namespaces) on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform.
      2. Enter the TM1 Admin Server URI.
      3. If your external TM1 database is configured to use SSL, select the Enable SSL Certificate option and paste the contents of the SSL certificate authority into the text box. See Custom SSL Certificates for Planning Analytics for details on configuring SSL certificates for the TM1 database.
      4. To enable access to TM1 Web, enter the IBM Planning Analytics Spreadsheet Service URI.

The TM1 Web URI must specify HTTPS. For details, see Configuring Cognos TM1 Web to use SSL.

      5. Select a Small, Medium, or Large plan size.
    • To deploy Planning Analytics Engine and Planning Analytics Spreadsheet Service on IBM Cloud Pak for Data, complete these configuration items:
      1. Select a namespace for the instance. For more information, see Setting up projects (namespaces) on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform.
      2. Select the Planning Analytics Engine and Planning Analytics Spreadsheet Service on IBM Cloud Pak for Data deployment option.
      3. Select a Small, Medium, or Large plan size.
  8. On the Storage page, select the storage class to use for the Planning Analytics Workspace instance.
  9. Specify the Disk size storage capacity for Planning Analytics Workspace.

If you selected the Planning Analytics Engine and Planning Analytics Spreadsheet Service on IBM Cloud Pak for Data deployment option, you must also select a storage class to use for TM1 storage.

  10. Click Next.
  11. Review your selections on the Summary page, then click Create.

Results

It can take up to 60 minutes for the provisioning process to complete. You can continue to use other services in Cloud Pak for Data while the process completes.

When provisioning is complete, the Planning Analytics service is available for you and your users to model, report, and plan with your business data. See Modeling and reporting patterns in data with Planning Analytics for details on using the service.

What to do next

Give the appropriate users access to the instance. See Adding users in Cloud Pak for Data.
