Activating replication for the Db2 service

You need to activate the replication process on both the source and target databases to begin replicating data on Db2.

About this task

Important: To use the Db2® Data Management Console to activate replication, enable replication before you deploy the Data Management Console. If you cannot perform the steps in this order, see Enabling the DMC to activate replication.

When you activate replication:

  • Db2 settings are changed to provide necessary replication information in the database recovery logs.
  • Message queues and other IBM® MQ objects are enabled as the data transport method between the source and targets.
  • Metadata tables are created to store your preferences and keep track of replicated data.
  • The queue manager, capture process, and replication REST server are started.

Procedure

  1. From the home page of the Cloud Pak for Data web client, on the navigation menu click My instances.
  2. On the Instances page, open the Db2 Data Management Console instance by clicking the options button on the far right of the row and clicking Open.

The console discovers all Db2 instances that are on the same cluster as the console.

  3. Click the instance that you want to serve as the source for replication.

The Monitor page for the instance opens.

  4. On the Monitor page, click Summary > Replication .
  5. On the Replication home page, click Activate replication.
  6. Repeat steps 3-5 for the target instance.

Results

The process can take up to five minutes. When it completes, the Replication home page opens, where you can create a replication set.
