Monitoring database instance

About this task

You can use the Informix Data Management Console to monitor the integrated databases.

Procedure

To monitor the integrated databases:

  1. Access the console.
  2. You can get a high-level view of the health of the database from Dashboard page:
    Dashboard-alt
Dashboard page is divided into two parts.
    1. Quick status and metrics.
      • Status:

Shows status of the running database instance and agent ( Agent is a lightweight program that runs alongside the database server, gathers database statistics ) in green or red which is either “Online” or “Offline” (Refreshes at every 10 seconds)

        Status
      • Incidents:

Indicate count of Un-Acknowledged incidents. Can be viewed in the card below which redirects to monitoring incidents (Refreshes every 10 seconds).

        Metrics
      • Database spaces:

Number of dbspaces which have less than 5 percent free space. Monitoring dbspaces provides more information with graph and data table. (Refreshes at every 30 seconds)

      • Online logs:

Shows count of errors and warnings. Monitoring Online logs shows detailed logs of server & agent. (Refreshes at every 30 seconds)

    2. Graphs:

Displays overall statistics of the running instance at some specified time interval and user can modify frequency. Refer Managing sensors to see metrics of 4 major sensors.

      Note:
      1. 4 hours old statistics is shown, option to change this duration is under consideration for future releases.
      2. Graphs refreshes statistics information at every 30 seconds interval however metrics shown in the graph is based on frequency specified for individual sensor. Refer sensor configuration.
      Metric Description
Checkpoints time Indicates checkpoint statistics for the Informix database server.
Session count Indicates the number of sessions count of the database.
Memory Usage Indicates the usage of physical system memory of the database in terms of server memory & OS memory.
DB Spaces overview Indicates the usage of the physical spaces of database of type Temp, Blob, and DB spaces.
