Replication of data for Db2
The replication feature for Db2® on Cloud Pak for Data enables high-speed data replication for business continuity.
- Db2
- Ensure that you have installed the Db2 service. For more information, see Installing the Db2 service.
- Data Management Console
- If you have already installed Db2 Data Management Console, make sure that a Db2 Data Management Console instance has been provisioned. For more information, see Installing Db2 Data Management Console.
Replication allows you to achieve continuous availability, including disaster recovery by synchronizing transactions over both row- and column-organized tables, whether on the same platform, across the data center, or around the world in an active-active configuration. It offers near real-time asynchronous data replication from a primary database server to one or more standby replicas for workload balancing or shifting workloads during planned outages, while also dramatically reducing the time to recovery for unplanned outages.
Both servers can be fully utilized for active workloads. A workload can run at either site, with the ability to perform a site switch with a recovery time objective (RTO) of seconds. You can also keep two or more Db2 instances available for load balancing or isolating workloads. The backup site is not just an idle standby, but can be used for live workloads. And the servers can be asymmetrical, with different hardware, operating systems, software versions, and configurations.
Data replication for Db2 on Cloud Pak for Data offers these advantages:
- High performing
- Highly parallel replication that scales and optimizes for the IBM® Hybrid Data Management portfolio. Securely transports data across unlimited distances with low latency between servers.
- Simple and intuitive
- Fast and easy to set up by using the replication features in the web console.
- Optimized for the cloud
- Consistent container-based deployment regardless of platform or environment.
- Versatile
- Flexible active-active use for high availability (development or QA, test, offload workload); transactional consistency for appliance workloads on both row- and column-organized tables; handles changed data and data definitions; provides you with the ability to fail over to a standby server in the event of a catastrophe or for scheduled maintenance.
- Resilient and reliable
- Built-in resiliency with self-healing architecture; tolerates maintenance interruptions and system faults (hardware, network, software).
