Supported topologies

Business Automation Insights is designed to receive, process, store, and visualize events emitted from various IBM automation products—whether or not they are installed within a Cloud Pak for Business Automation instance.
You can deploy Business Automation Insights independently, for example:
  • On virtual machines
  • Alongside Operational Decision Manager on any Kubernetes cluster
  • With Content Cortex in a private cloud
  • With Decision Intelligence Client Managed Software (Decision Intelligence) on Amazon EKS
These products emit events that describe business activity, such as:
  • Process execution from IBM Business Automation Workflow
  • Decision outcomes from Operational Decision Manager or Decision Intelligence
  • Document events from Content Cortex

Once event emission is configured and Business Automation Insights is set to receive and process those events, you can use the Business Performance Center to build dashboards, KPIs, and metrics tailored to your business needs. This setup works whether the automation products are co-installed with Business Automation Insights or deployed separately.

In addition to IBM products, Business Automation Insights can also ingest events from custom applications. Any system capable of emitting JSON-formatted events to a Kafka topic can be integrated. You can build a dedicated Processing Application to correlate, enrich, and aggregate these events for deeper insights.

Business Automation Insights supports multi-instance and multi-product topologies:
  • You can consolidate events from multiple environments (Dev, Test, Production) of the same product, such as Operational Decision Manager. See Figure 1.
  • You can also aggregate events from different products—such as Decision Intelligence, Content Cortex, and IBM Business Automation Workflow—into a single Business Automation Insights. See Figure 2.

This flexibility allows business owners and administrators to monitor decisions, processes, cases, and documents across the organization in one unified view.
