Optional: Using Content Platform Engine tools

Some of the tools that are provided for use with Content Platform Engine are not available in a container environment. You can install these tools on a separate server for use with your container deployment.

About this task

The following tools are available for use with your container deployment:
IBM Content Engine Bulk Import Tool (CEBIT)
Content Engine Bulk Import Tool is a command-line tool that you can use to import large volumes of documents into a Content Platform Engine object store. You can use Content Engine Bulk Import Tool to automate the following tasks:
  • Monitoring file system folders for content that must be assembled as documents.

  • Assigning metadata and indexing information to the documents in batches.

  • Storing the content in batches.

For more information about the tool and its usage, see the topic Bulk Import Tool overview in the IBM Documentation for IBM FileNet® Content Manager.

FileNet Deployment Manager
For assets created with IBM FileNet P8 tools, you can use FileNet Deployment Manager (FDM) for parts of the migration and deployment process to move assets between environments. Generally, the movement of an application or application assets through a migration and deployment process meets one of the following needs:
  • To move assets between multiple repositories or instances of a IBM FileNet P8 system. For example, you might need to share assets or customizations between different organizations within your business.

  • To support the lifecycle of an application that is developed by using a IBM FileNet P8 system as its base, for example, initial deployment from test to production, or propagation of changes from a development to a production environment.

For more information about the tool and its usage, see the topic Migrating and deploying applications in the IBM Documentation for IBM FileNet Content Manager.

Process Engine developer and administrator tools
FileNet Process Designer
Use FileNet Process Designer to create, start, and process workflow definitions.
pelog
Use the pelog tool to prune event log records and tracker work items from the workflow system event logs.
vwtool
The vwtool utility is a command-line system support and administration program you can use to view and modify various components of a workflow system.
peprocadmin/Process Administrator
The peprocadmin or Process Administrator utility enables administrators to view and manage work in progress.
pepcc/Process Configuration Console
The pepcc or Process Configuration Console utility enables administrators to configure the components of a workflow system, including isolated regions, queues, rosters, event logs, and application spaces.

For more information about the tools and usage, see the topic Integrating workflow into document management and its subtopics in the IBM Documentation for IBM FileNet Content Manager.

How your tools and Content Platform Engine connect can vary depending on your environment. Use the console for your container hosting platform to determine the URL for accessing the Administration Console for Content Platform Engine. This URL provides the relevant connection information for tools that need to access Content Platform Engine. Your access URL is different for each of the following scenarios:

  • Server and port: http://<server_name:port>
  • Operator default route: http://<cpe.9.30.0.183.nip.io>
  • Ingress: http://<your_hostname.my_ingress>

You use these values when you configure the connection for each tool to Content Platform Engine, according to the Getting Started Guide for the tool.

Procedure

To install and use the Content Platform Engine tools, use the instructions provided in Getting started with the Content Platform Engine tools.
