Using PDF guides to install a single capability pattern

If you want to install a production deployment with a single capability of Cloud Pak for Business Automation and you want to use the installation scripts, then you can download and open the preconfigured installation guides.

Before you begin

Remember: Make sure that you plan your databases and optional LDAP, and set up storage classes on the cluster in Planning for a production installation.
Restriction: While you can use the PDF files online or offline, links from the PDF files to IBM Docs, or any other website, do not work in a dark shop or an air-gapped environment. These environments by nature do not have access to the internet. Even if you installed the IBM Documentation for offline environments, the links in the PDF files always need a connection to the internet, and cannot detect that you installed the IBM Documentation Offline application.

If you need the external links to work from the PDF files, then open the files on a computer that is connected to the internet.

About this task

The installation steps in the PDF files assume that you are taking a minimalistic approach and plan to use many, if not all, of the default settings. Use the streamlined steps to get a deployment up and running as quickly as possible. If you need to customize the deployment or want to configure it in a specific way, then find these extra steps in the Cloud Pak for Business Automation HTML documentation.

Procedure

  1. Choose one of the following options and download the PDF file.
Tip: Download the PDF file to your local machine instead of opening it in a web browser. Command and code block indentation is preserved in a downloaded PDF whereas a web browser might insert line breaks when you copy and paste lines from the steps into your command terminal.

You need to set up a cluster only once to be able to create deployments in a specified namespace. Choose whether your docker registry is online or offline (an air gap environment), and open the instructions that apply to you:

  2. Choose a capability pattern and download the PDF.
  3. Add capabilities to your single pattern deployment.

After you installed a single pattern, you can add other patterns to your deployment. Download the PDF for the new pattern from Step 2: Choose a capability pattern and download the PDF, follow the preparation steps, and then update the custom resource of your instance with your changes. Business Automation Workflow can be installed for an Authoring environment and a Runtime environment, but the Authoring environment cannot be installed with Workstreams in the same deployment. Business Automation Workflow, which includes dependencies such as Business Automation Studio, Application Engine, and FileNet Content Manager, can be installed with both capture or decisions capabilities.

Note: To add capabilities to a deployment of FileNet Content Manager, where the kind is Content instead of ICP4ACluster, use the following steps:
    1. Prepare the capabilities that you want to add.
    2. Generate a new custom resource for all the patterns to be combined, including FileNet Content Manager.
    3. Copy the parameter values from the custom resource used in the FileNet Content Manager deployment into the new multi-pattern custom resource.
    4. Create the multi-pattern production deployment from the multi-pattern custom resource.

If you know that you want to immediately combine capabilities or you want to use the Red Hat OpenShift console to install, then use the instructions in Preparing your chosen capabilities and then Creating a production deployment.
