Integrated rack

Starting with Cloud Pak for Data System version 1.0.7.7, you can purchase a factory-built, integrated rack system that easily expands as well as streamlines the ordering process.

  • The integrated rack offering is not available in all countries. If a country does not support importation of an integrated system, systems will be configured in the non-integrated rack with separate PDU numbers. These countries include (but are not limited to): Republic of Korea (South Korea), Taiwan, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, and other EAC countries including Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
  • The Cloud Pak for Data System integrated rack offering applies to new installations. It cannot be intermixed with existing Cloud Pak for Data System installations.

Cloud Pak for Data System 1.0.7.7 includes an all-in-one base rack that is the foundation of a streamlined, consolidated, and expandable multi-rack system.

Essential hardware building blocks are integrated at the factory to create consolidated, single-rack or multi-rack systems, individually orderable by using a minimum number of part numbers. Racks are shipped to your site, pretested and preconfigured as a complete system, ready to deploy. The system is built with proven, tested building blocks optimized for data and AI workloads.

The base rack includes a rack, 4 power distribution units (PDUs), line cords, network and data management switches, and 2 enclosures, each with 4 server nodes. Racks are compliance tested and optimized for maximum power efficiency. All racks have redundant power that load shares equally across dual sets of input line cords. In the event of a power outage, the redundant fail-safe power design enables power to be provided by duplicate power supply lines.

Expansion elements are factory installed. Additional server enclosures and connector nodes are allowed expansion elements.

  • Any rack can add additional enclosures within allowed quantity restrictions.
  • Connector nodes can be added only to Cloud Pak for Data System Integrated Rack Appliance Y2001 and Cloud Pak for Data System Integrated Rack Platform Only Y2001.

A multi-rack configuration expands the data capacity of the single, base rack by adding more server enclosures, and scales efficiently by sharing networking and data management resources with the other racks in the system.

The base integrated rack system can be expanded by purchasing additional expansion nodes. Once all available expansion node slots are filled in the existing racks, you can purchase an expansion rack to continue expanding.

Enclosures include 4 server nodes and are either appliance or platform only.

Each appliance base comes with 48 VPCs licensed. Each platform only base requires separate purchase of Cloud Pak for Data VPC licenses and software subscription. Both bases use the same expansion racks.

Each appliance expansion node comes with 64 VPCs licensed. Each platform expansion node requires separate purchase of Cloud Pak for Data VPC licenses and software subscription.

You can use your existing Cloud Pak for Data VPC entitlements on the integrated racks.
