Creating a Data Module in IBM Cognos Analytics

When you have connected to IBM Db2, you can start using the database. The next step is to create a Data Module.

Procedure

  1. In IBM Cognos Analytics, navigate to Menu > + New > Data Module.

  2. From Select sources, click Data servers and schemas, and select your database, followed by the schema.

  3. Click OK.

  4. Now, you can choose either to Select tables or Discover related tables. Discover related tables is a tool that is provided by IBM Cognos Analytics that uses NLP and AI to help suggest relationships between tables. For more information, see the IBM Cognos Analytics documentation. For this example, choose Select tables then Next.

  5. Select all the tables and click OK.

  6. You now have a Data Module containing the entire schema. If you view the Relationships tab, you can see that IBM Cognos Analytics has detected some relationships due to the structure of the schema.

  7. If more data sources are needed for your dashboard requirements, you can include them into the data module and relationships that are formed between the Alerts/Incidents schema and others.

  8. Save your Data Module after completing any changes.
