Back up and restore (IBM Cloud Pak for AIOps on Linux)
Learn how to back up and restore a deployment of IBM Cloud Pak® for AIOps on a Linux® cluster.
Overview
The backup and restore procedure for deployments of IBM Cloud Pak for AIOps on Linux requires you to backup the virtual machines (VMs) in the cluster, and to use the VM backups for restoration as necessary. This procedure can be used for online and offline deployments of IBM Cloud Pak for AIOps.
The restore process can be used for the following scenarios:
- restore to a new cluster
- restore to the same cluster, which has missing worker or control nodes
- restore to the same cluster, which has some missing integrations, resource groups, or topology data.
The backup procedure is disruptive and requires the shutdown of the Linux cluster.
Backup
-
Shutdown the Linux cluster. Run steps 1-5 from Restart the environment. This step is mandatory - a backup can be used for restore only if it was taken after the Linux cluster was shut down.
-
Use a backup and restore tool of your choice to backup all of your VMs. If your chosen tool allows, it is recommended to group VMs together for backup (such as entire vApp backup on VMware®). This simplifies the backup process and helps ensure that all the cluster VMs are backed up consistently.
Restore
Note: The cluster that you are restoring to must have at least the same size and resources as the cluster that the backup was created on.
-
Use the backup and restore tool to restore the VMs.
-
Restart IBM Cloud Pak for AIOps. Run steps 6-8 from Restart the environment.
