Creating a custom action
You can create a custom action from the Managed services service library page.
About the task
If there are any problems while you create, save, or lock your custom action, then warning or error messages display.
Procedure
-
In the navigation bar, click Library > Custom Action. The Manage service library displays.
-
Click Create custom action.
-
In the Create custom action window, enter the following details:
-
Select either of the following options in Assign access section:
- Make this custom action globally accessible - Custom actions created globally are accessible to all users.
- Make this custom action part of a namespace - Associate the custom action with a specific namespace. For this option, you must select a namespace from the dropdown list to which the template must be assigned.
Notes:
- Based on the value selected in the namespace dropdown list of the Library > Custom Action window, the Assign access and namespace values are automatically selected. Modify the values if you want.
- If the custom action is defined as globally accessible, then only globally accessible resources are available in the composer. For example, globally accessible cloud connections, shared parameters, and content runtimes are only available in the custom action composition tab for a custom action that is defined as globally accessible.
- If the custom action is defined in a namespace context, then only globally accessible resources and resources defined in the same namespace context are available in the composition tab of the custom action.
-
Enter the custom action name.
-
Optionally, select a category.
If you do not specify any category, then the custom action is assigned to Cloud Actions category with custom action. You can select Add a category from the Category dropdown list to create a new category. If you select Add a category, then enter the name of the new category and click Create. The Select from list allows you to go back to the original list of categories.
For information about categories, see Creating a custom action category.
Notes:
- The composer does not allow you to create duplicate custom action names.
- Custom action name must follow the Kubernetes naming convention, or else the locked custom action do not get listed in IBM Cloud Pak® for AIOps catalog:
- Alphanumeric, underscore, hyphen, and space
- Starts with an alphabet
- If you plan to lock a custom action, ensure that its name is less than 64 characters long. If you have more than 64 characters, then locking the custom action to IBM Cloud Pak® for AIOps may cause issues.
-
-
Save your changes. The custom action is displayed in a
Unlock
status in the Manage service library. The overflow menu of the unlock service record in the Manage service library page has Edit, Assign access, Lock, and Delete. The Save button is disabled if there are validation errors in the service. -
