Creating bind and custom action instances for service instances
From the deployed service instance page, you can perform the bind or custom action.
About this task
Limitations:
- You can create any number of bind instance records for a service instance. However, only one bind instance can be created at a time. - You must wait for a bind instance to complete before you create another.
- Bind is available only for services instances that are in active state.
- You cannot deploy a bind instance before the service instance creation is complete.
For more bind related limitations, see Troubleshooting Service Composer or Portal issues.
Procedure
-
Navigate to the deployed instances page, by using one of these methods:
- In the navigation bar, click Deployed instances > Services tab.
- Alternatively, any operational user can access the instances page through the service library. From the IBM Cloud Pak for AIOps console, click Automate Infrastructure > Library. The Instances tab shows the deployed instances.
-
Search for your service instance.
Note: You can also use the following search filters:
-
Enter the name of the instance in the search instance filter.
-
Click the show filter menu icon to filter records based on the status of a record. The different statuses of a service instance are Active, In progress, Error, and Terminated.
Note: The Wait status is available whenever you use long running Business Process Manager template in your service.
-
You can click Name and Ordered on column headers to sort records. The Name also includes the namespace details. In addition, you have Service offering and Status column headers.
-
You can select a namespace from the All namespaces drop-down list. The list of service instances in the page changes based on the selected namespace. You can select "All namespaces" to see all of the service instances for which you have access.
You can use the pagination drop-down to select the number of records you want to display in a page at a time. Use the > or < to go through the next or previous set of records.

-
There are two ways to select Custom actions:
-
From the overflow menu of the service instance, select Custom actions.
-
Click on the service instance to view the details and select Custom actions from the overflow menu.
-
-
A Custom actions dialog box opens with the list of bind and custom actions.
-
Select the action and click Next, a service deployment page is displayed. It is called Bind service instance page for bind action.
-
Optionally, update the parameter values as required.
-
For Bind action, Click Bind instance. For custom actions, click action name button for executing this custom action. A new instance record is included in the Overview tab > Custom action instances section of the deployed instance. In the Overview > Action section, you can view the status of the operation. Click View log to view the log information of the bind action.
-
You can select UnBind action from the overflow menu of the bind instance records. The bind instance record changes from Active state to Terminated state.
-
From the Overflow tab > Action section, you can track the unbind operation. Click View log to view the log information of the unbind action.
