Error messages

Error messages provide information about problems that occur while running the probe. You can use the information that they contain to resolve such problems.

The following table describes the error messages specific to this probe. For information about generic error messages, see the IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus Probe and Gateway Guide, (SC14-7530).

Buffer overflow. Line too long

A line that appears in the event file is too long to be processed.

Contact the switch vendor.

Cannot connect to hostname : portname reason

The probe was unable to connect to the port on the specified host for the reason stated in the error message.

Ensure that the host is available. Check that the EIFHost and EIFService properties are set correctly.

Failed to connect to server

The ObjectServer appears to be unavailable.

Check that the ObjectServer is running, that the interfaces file on the system where the probe is installed has an entry for it, and that there is no networking problem between the two systems.

Failed to create socket

Resource problem.

Close applications to free up system resources.

Failed to process line

Failed to read next line

The probe is unable to read or process a line in the event file.

Contact IBM Software Support.

Unexpected EOF. Connection lost.

There is a problem with the connection between the probe and its target.

Check that the EIFHost and EIFService properties are set correctly.

Failed to initialise arguments

Failed to initialise heartbeat

Failed to initialise

Failed to install SIGALRM handler: hostname

Null timer handler!

Internal Error.
