Event Manager integrations

Probes connect to an event source, detect and acquire event data, and forward the data as events. They use the logic specified in a rules file to manipulate the event elements before converting them into fields of an event in the ObjectServer alerts.status table.

If a built-in integration does not exist, you can use a probe connection from the Netcool Probe library. The Netcool Probe library contains more than 140 Probes to retrieve or receive events from many different sources. For example, any trap event sources can be consumed by an SNMP Probe. By integrating with event manager probes, you can acquire data from different data sources, including devices, databases, and log files. Some probes are uniquely designed to acquire event data from a specific source, while other more generic probes (for example, the Message Bus Probe) can be configured to integrate with a variety of sources.

Important: You can connect IBM Netcool Operations Insight probes directly to IBM Cloud Pak for AIOps without needing to install the Netcool OMNIbus ObjectServer. If you do not have an existing version of Netcool or IBM Netcool Operations Insight deployed, install the probe on either a Linux VM or Red Hat OpenShift (if supported), and follow the instructions in Installing the IBM Netcool Event Integrations Operator and common probe configuration steps to get the information of the AIOps ObjectServer and point the probe to the AIOps ObjectServer.

Note: Netcool probes are still supported in an IBM Cloud Pak for AIOps deployment. For more information, see Probes and probe integrations Opens in a new tab in the IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus documentation.
