Managing resource group correlation

You can override existing resource group correlation by selecting individual resource groups and managing their participation in topological grouping.

About this task

Templates that create groups can specify whether correlation should be on or off for their groups by default.

Subsequently, event correlation can be manually toggled either on or off for each group by setting the correlate flag on the group.

Instana example

  • You can configure resource groups ingested via Instana Observer jobs to participate in topological correlation by setting default observer job parameters that control whether these groups are enabled for event correlation.
  • For a group or groups for which the observer has set the correlatable flag to true, you can then manually override this setting as required, for example when faced with instances of over-grouping.
  • If group correlation is set to false (default), you can override it and enable correlation for one or more groups.

Procedure

  • Log in to the Cloud Pak for AIOps console. You can manage correlation status for groups either from the applications (services) or resource groups tabs.

Tip: To find specific applications or resource groups or reduce the number displayed in the table, use the Search or Filter functionality, or sort the table by column header.

Set correlation in Resource management|Resource groups

  • From the main navigation, click Resource management, then select the Resource groups tab.

The resource groups are displayed in table format with a range of columns showing information specific to each group, including Correlation status.

From here you can change the correlation status of your resource groups using the overflow menu. You can perform the following actions:

    • Enable correlation
    • Disable correlation
    • Return to default correlation
Tip: If you open More Details, the correlation status is displayed next to the resource group name. In the table of properties, the correlatable property indicates the status set by default, while the correlate property indicates the manual status that has been set to override the default.

Set correlation in Resource management|Applications

  • From the main navigation, click Resource management, then select the Applications tab.

The applications are displayed as favorites and (or) in table format.

    • Click More details next to a service and then select the Related resource groups tab. All resource groups are displayed in a table with a range of columns showing information specific to each group, including Correlation status, with check boxes on the left of the first column.

    • Select one or more of the resource groups. When you do, the following functionality becomes active on the menu bar:
      • Enable correlation

      • Disable correlation

      • Return to default correlation

Tip: If one of these options is unavailable (greyed out), then the respective correlation status is already set.
