Operator installation mode

Learn about the Red Hat® OpenShift® Container Platform operator installation modes that are supported by the IBM Cloud Pak® for Watson AIOps operators.

IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps

The IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps operator supports the Red Hat OpenShift OwnNamespace and AllNamespaces installation modes.

The All namespaces on the cluster (default) installation mode in the UI installation of the IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps operator is equivalent to the AllNamespaces mode in the CLI installation. In this mode, the IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps operator is installed in the openshift-operators project (namespace), and watches and is available to all namespaces in the cluster.

In the OwnNamespace installation mode, you must create and select a project (namespace) for the IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps operator to be installed into. In this mode, the IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps operator watches and is available for use only in this single namespace.

The OwnNamespace installation mode is the recommended installation mode for IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps, to provide better resilience and performance.

Suboperator installation mode

Suboperators are installed by the Operator Deployment Lifecycle Manager (ODLM) in the project (namespace) where the user created the Installation CR instance. Each suboperator watches and is available for use in its project (namespace).

IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps Infrastructure Automation

The Infrastructure Automation operator supports the OpenShift OwnNamespace and AllNamespaces installation modes when installed with, or without, IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps.

If you are installing with IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps with the OwnNamespace installation mode, you must follow the same instructions for IBM Cloud Pak for Watson AIOps to use that installation mode.
