Adding users

You can add specific user accounts.

Before you begin

Create user names and passwords to log in to the system. Each user must have a user name and password.

You must be assigned the Security administration role with permission to Manage security (Full permission) and Allow delegation when Full permission is selected role to perform these steps.

About this task

You can use the console, the command line interface, or the REST API to complete this task. For the command line and REST API information, see the Related information section.

Procedure

  1. Click Security and access > Users.
  2. Click the New icon in the toolbar to add a user.
  3. Enter a unique login name in the User name field.
    The value for this field can be up to 64 characters in length and cannot be blank. This field cannot be modified after you have created the user.
  4. Enter the name of the user in the Full name field.
    This field is used for display purposes. This field cannot be modified after you have created the user.
  5. Enter a valid email address for the user in the Email address field.
    This field specifies the email address that is used to provide a new password if a user forgets a password. This email address is also used for additional notifications.
    Note: Cloud Pak System System does not retrieve your email address from the LDAP server.
  6. Select the type of authentication to use from the Account type from the menu.
    During registration, you must select how the user is authenticated, with the local registry or the LDAP registry. You can configure your system to authenticate users in one of the following ways.
    • You can authenticate users with a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directory.
    • You can authenticate users locally.
  7. If you selected Local Account type, enter and verify the password for the user.
    In the Password and Verify password fields, enter the password for the user. A password is not required when you select LDAP Account type.
  8. Click OK.

What to do next

When a user is first created, only the default permissions are assigned. You can give the new user additional permissions or you can add the new user to a user group.
