Configuring system settings

Configure settings for your system, such as the Domain Name Service (DNS) server, email delivery, date and time, event forwarding, and backup and restore operations.

Configuring email delivery
Configure the required Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server and the password reset notices.
Configuring date and time settings
Use Network Time Protocol (NTP) servers to keep your system date and time synchronized with an external reference time.
Configuring event forwarding
Configure events as Simple Network Monitoring Protocol (SNMP) traps.
Configuring Service and Support Manager
Service and Support Manager allows Cloud Pak System to open a service ticket with IBM Support and collect required trace logs.

Administering the DNS server
A Domain Name System (DNS) server is required for the system to function correctly, as DNS lookup services are used for communication. You are required to specify the DNS server during system initialization.
External Applications
External applications are groups of user account credentials that allow external access to the virtual manager, compute nodes, and storage controller of the system.
Putting the system into maintenance mode
Use maintenance mode when you apply fixes or other upgrades to the system. Maintenance mode prevents operations from continuing to run if the system maintenance process fails.
Configuring Virtual Management Instance Settings
A unique ID of the virtual management instance is required to identify the system uniquely in a common environment. You are required to specify the unique virtual management instance ID during system initialization.
