Putting the system into maintenance mode

Use maintenance mode when you apply fixes or other upgrades to the system. Maintenance mode prevents operations from continuing to run if the system maintenance process fails.

About this task

When the system is in maintenance mode, a banner displays across the top of the console to alert users that the system is under maintenance. This banner displays the dates and times that you specify when you put the system into maintenance mode.

Most operations, such as deploying new instances, are not available when the system is in maintenance mode. Operations that are not available during maintenance are disabled in the console and a message displays when you hover over the icon for the operation: This operation is not available during system maintenance.

You can also put specific compute nodes or instances into maintenance mode. For more information, see the following topics:

Procedure

  1. Click System > System Settings.
  2. Expand the Maintenance mode section.
  3. Specify the Start date/time and the End date/time for the maintenance window.
  4. Click Submit.

Results

The system enters maintenance mode during the specified maintenance window. The system remains in maintenance mode until the specified End date/time.
To remove the system from maintenance mode before the End date/time, click Stop maintenance in the Maintenance mode section.
Note: The Stop maintenance operation is available only when the system is in maintenance mode.
