Managing backup configurations

You can configure and manage multiple backup profiles to schedule and run backups.

You can define and manage multiple backup configurations to schedule backups, run backups on demand, create, modify, and delete configurations as needed, and view the history of previous backups.

After you have defined and configured one or more backup locations, you can create multiple backup configurations that define what to include in the backup, which backup location to store the data, and the frequency of performing the backup (either scheduled on a regular basis or run on demand as needed). You can also enable or disable a backup configuration to control whether or not a backup can be performed using the backup configuration.

Managing your backup configurations includes the following general tasks:
  • Creating a new backup configuration, specifying name, backup location, the type of backup, and frequency.
  • Optionally selecting component types to include in a component level backup.
  • Enabling and disabling backup configurations as needed.
  • Modifying backup configurations as your backup needs change.
  • Deleting backup configurations when they are no longer needed.
  • You can select from a list of users to be notified by email when the following events occur with this backup configuration:
    • Backup is started.
    • The backup operation completed successfully.
    • The backup operation failed (for example, the ssh server is stopped. The backup operation is retried a number of times before a fail is recorded).
Note: If no user is selected to receive email notifications, email notifications are sent to the default administrator account on the system, if an email address is configured for this account. To view this account, click System > Users and select admin.

You can use the Backup Configurations table in the Backup and Restore page of the console to manage your backup configurations. You can also use REST API commands to perform many of the same tasks.

To access backup and restore functions, you must have all of the following user roles and permissions:
  • Workload resources administration with Manage workload resources (Full permission)
  • Cloud group administration with Manage cloud resources (Full permission)
  • Hardware administration with Manage hardware resources (Full permission)
  • Security administration with Manage security (Full permission)
